Atlas Insurance introduces work and leisure balance activities to employees

Atlas Insurance yesterday launched their newly established health and well-being programme for their employees.  The programme kicked off with subsidised Pilates sessions to which employees are invited once a week.  Sessions are held at the company’s premises in Ta’ Xbiex.

Pilates workouts help strengthening one’s body as it involves stretching and strengthening muscles to improve flexibility, balance and body symmetry.  Pilates workouts, developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s as an exercise programme for First World War veterans, entails a series of stretching and resistance exercises with a focus on breathing and body awareness that leads to core stability and leaner muscles.  Through Pilates one can address muscle imbalances while also creating a calming effect, superb for stress relief.

Catherine Calleja, Director at Atlas Insurance PCC Limited said that pilates helps in reducing back pains, improves posture and increases circulation, making it perfect training for anyone who has to sit at a desk all day.  “Pilates is ideal for the workplace because it can be practiced by anyone.  Above all it is a way to wind down together after a day’s work with all its mental and physical implications.  The company gives paramount importance to internal relationships: there is not only a link between happy employees and happy clients, you just can’t have one without the other.

The well-being programme has garnered very positive feedback from staff. Employees feel valued and therefore are more committed to the organisation.  Furthermore, they are provided with the tools to ensure they cope effectively with work-life balance demands” concluded Mrs. Calleja.
